- 2Click the page where the text should start and type. Press Esc or click elsewhere when done; tap a text box twice to edit it again.

- 4Click Save and download to get yourfile-edited.pdf.
Real PDF text, not a picture
Text is written into the PDF with the standard Helvetica, Times or Courier fonts, so it stays sharp, searchable and selectable, and the file stays small. The original pages are not re-rendered. What you see in the editor matches the saved file, including on rotated pages.
Text that the standard fonts cannot encode, such as Chinese, Arabic or emoji, is saved as a high-resolution image of the text instead, so it still appears exactly as typed.
Everything you need for quick edits
- Text boxes with multiple lines, font, size from 4 to 200 pt, bold, italic and any color.
- Check, cross and dot marks for ticking boxes on printed forms. The tool stays active so you can tick many boxes in a row.
- Whiteout to cover a typo or placeholder, then type the correction on top.
- Box, ellipse and line to highlight or underline, with line color, width and optional fill.
- Move, resize, duplicate, delete, copy to other pages, undo and redo. Arrow keys nudge the selected item.
Good to know
Whiteout hides content visually, but the covered text is still inside the file and could be found with a PDF editor or copy and paste. Do not use it to remove confidential information. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Password-protected PDFs open after you enter the password; the edited copy is saved without it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add text to a PDF for free?
Add the PDF, click where you want the text and type. Adjust the font, size and color in the toolbar, then click Save and download. No account or watermark.
Can I edit the existing text in my PDF?
Not directly. This tool adds new content on top of the page. To change a word, cover it with Whiteout and type the new text over it.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap a tool, tap the page to place it, and drag items with your finger. Use the zoom buttons for small text.
Which fonts can I use?
Helvetica, Times and Courier, each in regular, bold and italic. These are built into every PDF reader, so the file looks the same everywhere.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened, edited and saved entirely in your browser.
Can I add the same text to several pages?
Yes. Select the text box, click Copy to pages and choose All pages or a range such as 2-6. Each copy is placed at the same position and can be edited separately.
