How to use JPG to PNG

  1. 1Drop one or more JPG files into the box or click Choose files.
  2. 2Optionally switch on Shrink large images and set the longest side in pixels.
  3. 3Click Convert to PNG and watch each file finish in the list.
  4. 4Download a single PNG, or click Download all (ZIP) to get every file at once.

When PNG is the better choice

PNG is lossless, so every later edit and save keeps the exact pixels. That makes it a good working format for screenshots you will annotate, images you will edit several times, and graphics you plan to cut out and place on a transparent background later.

Many design tools, slide templates and upload forms also ask for PNG specifically. Converting here gives you a file they accept without opening an image editor.

What to expect from the file size

A PNG made from a JPG is almost always larger, often two to five times, because PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression. The list shows the size before and after for each image so you can see this right away.

Converting does not restore detail the JPG already lost, and it does not add transparency by itself. If you need a smaller file, use JPG or WebP instead. If you only need smaller dimensions, turn on Shrink large images, which also cuts the PNG size a lot.

Privacy and limits

  • Files are decoded and re-saved by your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
  • Photo metadata such as GPS location and camera details is not copied into the PNG.
  • Phone photos are saved upright, using the rotation stored in the photo.
  • Very large images (above about 50 megapixels) depend on your device memory and may fail on phones.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG keeps the pixels exactly as they are in the JPG, including any compression artifacts. It only stops further quality loss when you edit and save the image again.

Why is my PNG bigger than the JPG?

PNG is lossless and is designed for graphics, not photos. A photo saved as PNG usually takes two to five times more space. Use the Shrink large images option if you need a smaller file.

Does the PNG get a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. To remove a background you need a background removal tool.

Can I convert many JPG files at once?

Yes. Add up to 100 images, convert them in one click, and download them together as a ZIP file.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion uses your browser's own image engine on your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
