  5. 5Download each JPG, or Download all (ZIP).

Why AVIF files are hard to open

AVIF is a newer image format that many websites now serve because it is small. Browsers show it fine, but when you save the image, older photo viewers, Microsoft Office, some editing apps and many upload forms do not accept it. JPG works everywhere, from email and messengers to printing kiosks.

Quality and size

The quality slider works like in any photo editor. 90 is the default and is visually close to the original; 80 gives noticeably smaller files; 60 is for when size matters most. Expect the JPG to be larger than the AVIF: AVIF compresses about twice as efficiently, so the same picture needs more bytes as JPG. That is normal and does not mean quality was added.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white by default. You can choose black or any custom color. To keep transparency, use AVIF to PNG instead.

Turn on Shrink large images to also reduce the pixel size, for example to 1920 pixels on the longest side for email or social media.

Browser support

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (16 and later) decode AVIF themselves, so conversion is instant. In older browsers the tool loads a small AVIF decoder the first time it needs it. Animated AVIF files are converted using their first frame.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free and without upload?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no watermark, and the images are processed only in your browser.

Why is the JPG larger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses much better than JPG. Converting keeps the picture the same, so the JPG needs more bytes. Lower the quality to 75 or 80 if you need smaller files.

Can I convert many AVIF files at once?

Yes, up to 100 per batch. Download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with the background color you choose (white by default). The list tells you when an image had transparent parts.

Can I also make images smaller in pixels?

Yes. Turn on Shrink large images and set the longest side, for example 1920 pixels.
