How to use Sign PDF
- 1Add the PDF you need to sign. If it has a password, enter it to open it.
- 2Click Signature and draw, type or upload your signature. Do the same for Initials if the document asks for them.
- 3Drag the signature to the right spot and resize it with the corner handles. Use Date to insert today's date, and Copy to pages to repeat a signature or initials on other pages.
- 4Click Finish and download to save the signed copy as yourfile-signed.pdf.
Three ways to create your signature
- Draw: sign with a mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus. The line gets thinner when you move fast and thicker when you slow down (or press harder with a pen), so it looks like real ink. Drawn signatures are saved as vector paths, so they stay crisp at any zoom level.
- Type: type your name and pick one of five handwriting styles (Dancing Script, Great Vibes, Sacramento, Homemade Apple and Caveat).
- Upload: take a photo of your signature on white paper. The tool detects the paper color and removes it, leaving a transparent signature. A strength slider cleans up shadows, and you can recolor the ink to black or blue.
Built for real paperwork
Most documents need more than one signature. You can place as many signatures, initials, dates, text boxes, check marks and crosses as you like, on any page. Select an item and use Copy to pages to put the same initials on every page in one step; items near the bottom right of one page land at the bottom right of the others, even when page sizes differ. Undo and redo work for every change, and on a computer you can nudge the selected item with the arrow keys.
The original pages are not re-rendered or compressed. Text stays sharp and selectable, and the signature is added on top as part of the page content. Rotated and mixed-size pages are handled correctly.
Privacy and what this signature is
Everything happens in your browser, so the document and your signature are never uploaded. If you tick Remember on this device, your signature is stored only in this browser's local storage, and you can delete it any time with Forget it. Leave it unticked on shared computers.
This creates an electronic signature (an image or drawing of your signature on the document), which is what most forms, leases and agreements ask for. It is not a certificate-based digital signature. If the PDF already carries a digital signature, the tool warns you, because any change to the file will make that signature show as modified.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free to sign a PDF here?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of documents or signatures.
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Draw your signature with your finger, then drag it into place on the page. Pages and thumbnails adapt to small screens, and you can zoom in for precise placement.
Will signing reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. The pages are kept exactly as they were and the signature is added on top. Drawn signatures are vector paths; typed and uploaded signatures are embedded as transparent PNG images.
Can I add my initials to every page?
Yes. Create your initials, place them once, then click Copy to pages and choose All pages or a range such as 2-10.
Can I sign a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. Enter it when asked; it is checked in your browser. The signed copy is saved without the password, so use Protect PDF afterwards if you need it again.
Is my signature stored anywhere?
Only if you choose Remember on this device, and then only in your own browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server.
