How to use Extract 7z Files
- 1Drop a .7z file into the box. The file list appears after the archive is read.
- 2Browse folders, search by name, and preview images or text with the eye icon.
- 3Untick files you do not need.
- 4Download single files, download the selection as a ZIP, or use Extract to a folder in Chrome or Edge.
What is supported
The extractor handles the compression methods that 7-Zip uses for normal and Ultra settings: LZMA, LZMA2, BCJ and BCJ2 (used for program files), Deflate, Delta and Store. Compressed file lists and solid archives work. Every file is checked against its CRC checksum, so a damaged archive is reported instead of silently giving you broken files.
What is not supported yet
- Split archives such as .7z.001 and .7z.002 need all parts joined first, in 7-Zip or Keka.
Password-protected (AES-256) archives and less common methods such as PPMd and BZip2 are handled by a second engine that loads automatically when needed.
Performance and memory
7z archives are often solid, meaning files are compressed together for a better ratio. To extract one file from a solid block, the whole block has to be decompressed first, so the first download from a large archive takes longer. Archives up to 1 GB can be opened, depending on your device's memory.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a 7z file without 7-Zip?
Drop it on this page. It is decompressed in your browser and you can download the files right away.
Can I open a 7z file on a Mac or iPhone?
Yes. This tool runs in Safari and Chrome, so it works on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android.
Can I extract a password-protected 7z file?
Yes. Type the password and click Unlock. Archives with encrypted file names show their list once the password is right.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The archive is read and decompressed entirely in your browser.
Why does the first file take a while to download?
In solid archives files are compressed together, so the whole block must be decompressed once. Later files from the same block are instant.
