Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool on UtilityNest runs inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your PDFs, photos and archives are read and processed on your own device and are never sent to us or anyone else. Once a page has loaded, most tools keep working even if you go offline.
Is UtilityNest really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark on your results and no daily limit. The site is supported by ads, which is how it stays free.
Is there a file size limit?
We don't set one. Because processing happens on your device, the practical limit is your device's memory. Files of a few hundred megabytes work on most laptops; phones do best with smaller files.
Which browsers and devices work?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone. A few heavy tools, such as OCR and large batch jobs, are faster on a computer.
Why should I trust a free tool site with private documents?
You don't have to trust us with them, because they never reach us. That is the main difference from most online converters, which upload your file to their servers to process it.
Can I use UtilityNest for work or school?
Yes. The tools are free for personal and commercial use, and results carry no watermark or branding.
Why do I see ads?
Ads pay for the site so the tools can stay free with no account and no limits. Ads never have access to your files.
A tool failed on my file. What can I do?
Try a desktop browser if you are on a phone, since some jobs need more memory. If the file is password protected, unlock it first. If it still fails, tell us through the contact page which tool and browser you used.
Do the tools work offline?
Most of them do once the page has loaded, because the processing happens on your device. Tools that download helper data on first use, such as OCR, need a connection the first time.
Do you keep a copy of my results?
No. Results are created in your browser and saved straight to your device. We never receive them.
