How to use HEIC to PNG

  1. 1Drop your HEIC or HEIF photos into the box, or click Choose files. You can add up to 100 at once.
  2. 2Keep PNG as the output format, or switch to JPG if you want much smaller files.
  3. 3Optionally turn on Shrink large images and set the longest side in pixels.
  4. 4Click Convert to PNG and wait a second or two per photo.
  5. 5Download each PNG, or click Download all (ZIP) to get every file at once.

Why convert HEIC to PNG

iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but many places still cannot open them: older Windows PCs, some web upload forms, design tools and online printing services. PNG is supported everywhere and is lossless, so the converted file keeps every pixel of the decoded photo. That makes PNG the right choice when you plan to edit, retouch or crop the photo and save it several times.

If you only need to share or upload the photo, JPG is usually better because it is much smaller. You can pick JPG on this page too, or use HEIC to JPG.

What to expect from file size

A full-resolution 12 megapixel iPhone photo becomes a PNG of roughly 10 to 25 MB, because PNG does not use lossy photo compression. Each file in the list shows the size before and after. To get smaller PNGs, turn on Shrink large images and choose 1920 or 2560 pixels for the longest side, which is plenty for screens, slides and documents.

Privacy and limits

  • Photos are decoded on your device. Safari uses its built-in HEIC support; other browsers use a decoder that loads only when you convert.
  • Location, camera details and other metadata are not copied into the PNG.
  • Photos are saved upright.
  • Live Photo motion and burst sequences are not converted; you get the main still image.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIC to PNG lossless?

PNG stores the decoded photo without any further compression loss. The HEIC itself was already compressed by the iPhone, so converting does not add detail, but it does not remove any either.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the HEIC?

HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression, while PNG is lossless and is designed for graphics. A photo as PNG is often ten times the size of the HEIC. Use Shrink large images or choose JPG if size matters.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page and decoder have loaded.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Up to 100 per batch. Each HEIC takes about 1 to 3 seconds to decode on a typical computer, a little longer on phones.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It works in current mobile browsers. On an iPhone you can also pick photos straight from the Photos library in the file picker.
