How to use Extract RAR Files

  1. 1Drop a .rar file (or a self-extracting RAR .exe) into the box.
  2. 2If the archive is password-protected, type the password and click Unlock.
  3. 3Preview files, then download the ones you need or extract everything to a folder.

Full RAR support, right in your browser

This tool runs the official UnRAR decompression code inside your browser, so it decompresses real RAR4 and RAR5 archives, including solid archives and files compressed with RAR's best settings. Nothing is uploaded: the archive is read on your device, which matters for private documents and large files alike.

Many sites that claim to extract RAR files upload your archive to their server first. This page never does.

Password-protected RAR files

Enter the password and click Unlock. If the archive also hides its file names (WinRAR's "Encrypt file names" option), the list appears once the password is right. The password is used only in this browser tab.

Multi-part RAR sets

Archives split into .part1.rar, .part2.rar and so on are read one part at a time here. Files that sit entirely inside the part you open can be extracted; files that continue into the next part need all parts together in desktop software such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.

Other ways to open RAR files

  • Windows 11 opens RAR files in File Explorer (version 23H2 and later).
  • Windows 10: 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR.
  • Mac: Keka or The Unarchiver.
  • Phones: this page works in Safari and Chrome, so no app is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extract RAR files without WinRAR?

Yes. Drop the RAR here and download the files. It works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone and Android.

Can I open a password-protected RAR file?

Yes, if you know the password. Type it and click Unlock. This tool does not crack or bypass passwords.

Does it support RAR5?

Yes. Both RAR4 and RAR5 archives, including solid archives, can be extracted.

Is my RAR file uploaded?

No. The archive is decompressed in your browser and never leaves your device.

Why does the first open take a second longer?

The RAR engine (about 200 KB) loads the first time you open an archive. After that it is cached by your browser.
