How to use Compress Image
- 1Drop up to 50 JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC images into the box, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- 2Pick a level: Smallest file, Balanced (recommended) or Best quality. Compression starts automatically.
- 3Drag across the preview to compare the original and compressed image. Click another file in the list to preview it.
- 4Download a single file with its download icon, or click Download all to get every image in one ZIP.
How the compression works
JPG and WebP images are re-encoded at a lower quality setting chosen by the level you pick. PNG images keep their transparency and are made smaller by reducing the number of colors, the same idea used by popular PNG optimizers. iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPG.
If a file is already well optimized and would get bigger, the tool keeps your original file instead and marks it as already optimized, so you never download a larger file by accident.
Which level should I choose?
- Balanced suits most photos for websites, email and online forms. The difference is very hard to see.
- Smallest file is good for chat apps, thumbnails and pages where speed matters most.
- Best quality keeps fine detail for portfolios or images you may edit later.
Need a file under an exact size such as 100 KB, WebP output or smaller dimensions? The Advanced Image Compressor has those controls.
Privacy and limits
Images are processed with your browser's own image engine and are not sent to any server. Compressed files do not keep EXIF metadata, which also removes camera details and GPS location. Very large images (for example 50 megapixels and up) depend on your device's memory and may be slow on phones.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to compress private photos here?
Yes. The images are compressed inside your browser and are never uploaded, so nobody else can see them.
How much smaller will my images get?
Typical phone photos shrink by 50 to 80 percent on the Balanced level. Images that were already compressed hard may only shrink a little; in that case the original is kept.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes. You can add up to 50 images per batch and download them all together as a ZIP file.
Does compression change the image dimensions?
No. This tool keeps the width and height. To make images smaller in pixels too, use the Advanced Image Compressor or the Resize Image tool.
Does it work with iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes. HEIC photos are converted and saved as compressed JPG files that open everywhere.
